54.7 Hz (Midway T-Unit / Y-Unit)

These refresh rates are common to specific Midway hardware families:

  • Mortal Kombat 1, 2, 3– ~54.7 Hz

  • NBA Jam / NBA Jam TE – ~54.7 Hz

  • Narc – ~54.7 Hz

  • Terminator 2: Judgment Day – ~54.7 Hz

  • Total Carnage – ~54.7 Hz

  • Smash TV – ~54.7 Hz


Nearly 60hz

Very close to 60hz, but it still makes a small difference:

  • ALL of Neo Geo – 59.18 Hz

  • Pac-Man & Ms. Pac Man – 59.61 Hz

  • Galaga, Dig Dug – 59.64 Hz

  • Xevious – 59.64 Hz

  • Donkey Kong 1, 2, 3 – 60.61 Hz (not 60)

CPS 1 & 2 (dozens of games on this platform, partial list):

  • Street Fighter II (all versions) – ~59.6 Hz

  • Final Fight – ~59.5 Hz

  • Alien vs Predator – ~59.6 Hz

  • Dungeons & Dragons (both games) – ~59.6 Hz


57.5 Hz – 57.7 Hz

Frequently seen in older Atari raster games:

  • Asteroids (vector) – 57 Hz

  • Battlezone (vector) – 58 Hz

  • Tempest (vector) – 61.5 Hz (not 60)

  • Star Wars (vector) – 60.9 Hz

  • Gravitar – 58.5 Hz

Vector monitors often run at “odd” frequencies that aren't truly 60 Hz.


55 Hz – 56 Hz

Some Sega and Konami hardware used slightly off-spec timings:

  • After Burner II – ~56.4 Hz

  • Thunder Blade – ~56.4 Hz

  • Galaxy Force II – ~56.7 Hz

  • OutRun (some regional boards) – ~56–57 Hz
